Free School Meals

Be assured that Mobile Meals and Grab and Go food services at our two elementary schools will continue, despite Governor Ducey's stay at home order. As outlined in the governor's presentation, schools are considered essential services: Mohave Valley School District will continue to offer both Schoolwork at Home packets and resources, as well as meals as part of the essential services provided.

To make meal access easier, the Federal Government has lifted its ban on requiring students to be present to pick up meals. This means once family counts have been verified, districts can begin providing meals for the entire family to one person should the family choose.

In Mohave Valley, this is how we plan to operate, beginning Wednesday, April 1st:

  • Parents will bring all children in their family that they wish to have meals provided for
  • Staff will ask family name, verify and note child count, and sign off on receipt
  • Parents will receive the original receipt voucher for future use
  • Following voucher receipt, parents need only to send one (or more) people with the voucher in order to receive meals for the number of children listed on the voucher

The idea behind the voucher system is to limit exposure for students and families who until Wednesday have to have every child present to receive a meal. After receiving a voucher, families can send one person for all the family's meals, several neighboring families can send one person to collect meals for all of the neighbors, etc. PLEASE NOTE: It is important that families using the voucher system provide enough people and/or a means by which to transport all meals being collected home: Remember, each student receives a breakfast and a lunch each day, so plan accordingly.

Families who lose their vouchers will be required to "re-certify" their family/group size again by bringing all the children to receive a new voucher.

One reminder: Please practice social distancing when picking up meals. Obviously using a voucher will eliminate the need for all children to attend. However, standing six feet apart while waiting for meals is extremely important for both your family, as well as the families of other participants, not to mention our meal workers.
