Mohave Valley School District has made a calendar change for January that moves the two scheduled professional development days from January 16 & 17 to January 13 & 14 to accommodate AVID training for 20 staff members in January.
"Although calendar changes can be annoying, our intent was always for our staff to attend the AVID training in Las Vegas in January" commented Whitney Crow, Superintendent. "This is the second year AVID's training dates have changed, but the cost savings of sending staff as close as Las Vegas as opposed to San Diego or further in the summer is nearly 50%, so change we do".
AVID, or Advancement via Individual Determination is an improvement program geared at providing students with skills necessary for success in high school and beyond, focusing on Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading, or WICOR. These skills are infused in teachers' lessons every day, with the goal of preparing students not only for improved student achievement in their current grade, but throughout high school and whatever they choose to do after high school, including any college or career choice.
Please mark your calendars now. An UPDATED school calendar can be found on the district's app or on the website under Documents, or follow this link.
