January Calendar Change

At its September meeting, the Governing Board of the Mohave Valley Elementary School District voted to amend the 18-19 School year calendar by moving the professional development days, originally scheduled for January 10 and 11 back one week, to January 17 and 18.

The original dates were set to correspond with training available to MVJH staff in Las Vegas which would save the district thousands of dollars by eliminating travel to San Diego or further, where accommodations are much more expensive and travel would cost more. At the same time, the registration fee is $150 less per person in Las Vegas than it will be later in San Diego. However, the training originally scheduled for January 10 and 11 had to be moved back one week by the training organizers due to a lack of meeting space available.

"While we hate making any changes once the calendar's been set" noted Whitney Crow, Superintendent, "the opportunity to attend this training not only much closer than usual, but at a much cheaper rate pressed us to make the change. Hopefully with enough advance notice, parents and families can plan accordingly".

At the same time, by moving the date back one week, the district's elementary teachers are able to participate in the Bullhead City area-wide Professional Development Day, hosted by Mohave High School each year. Combine that with the fact that we're tying together the two professional development days with the MLK Holiday, and parents have the opportunity for a longer weekend.
