Margie Poppin

Mohave Valley Schools would like to introduce you to Margie Poppin. Mrs. Poppin began her time with the district in the cafeteria over 20 years ago, and has worked her way through the ranks and into the district office, where she currently wears many hats, including Food Service Director, Procurement, and Accounts Payable. She also dabbles with e-rate, and coordinates the district’s School Facilities Board special projects, amongst the many “other duties as assigned”.

“Mrs. Poppin is an invaluable member of our district team” noted Jenette King, district Business Manager. “We’d never be able to fit all she does for a title on a business card, as she touches many different areas of district operation. We’d be lost without her!”

One of the rare ones, Mrs. Poppin grew up in Mohave Valley, where she attended school at Mohave Valley Elementary as a child. Her three children followed suit, attending Mohave Valley Elementary and Mohave Valley Jr. High during their school careers. Keeping it in the family, Mrs. Poppin’s mother, Pat Walstrom worked as Fort Mojave and Mohave Valley Jr. High’s cafeteria manager for many years.

Despite the fact that she wears so many hats, Mrs. Poppin counts being “the lunch lady” at Mohave Valley Elementary as her favorite experience working with the district: “I thoroughly enjoyed greeting our students by name each morning, making them smile, and encouraging them to have a good day. There’s no greater reward than having those kids see me in public and excitedly share with their parents: Hey, that’s the lunch lady!”
